We warmly welcome the home-educating community with special term-time days just for you. Your feedback helps us tailor visits to meet your children’s learning needs, ensuring the museum is an enjoyable and enriching experience for everyone.
For the first hour of all our Home Educator Days, we offer a quiet hour designed for families with SEND. This calmer time has fewer visitors and provides a supportive environment for families and groups with SEND to enjoy their visit.
Thursday 26th February: Paper Worlds
Thursday 21st May: Brilliant Birds
Thursday 25th June: The Big Museum Print Off
Thursday 24th September: Clay Museum/Quex house make
Thursday 22nd October: Nocturnal
Thursday 26th November: Festive Craft.
All sessions run from 10 am – 2 pm. 10 am – 11 am is a quiet hour.
We are delighted to share that we will be open each Friday from 21st February to 31st October 2026.
Although these are not exclusively for home-educating families, they are another opportunity to include a visit to our museum within your home-learning programme.
The first hour of the session is a Quiet Hour, designed especially for our SEND visitors. During this time, the museum will be calmer, with reduced noise and activity to support a more relaxed visit. All Home Education families are welcome to attend during this hour.
If you would like to take part in the organised craft activity, please purchase a Craft Admission ticket.
If you would like to visit the museum without taking part in the craft, please purchase a Standard Admission ticket.
Can adults take part in the craft activity?
Yes – adults are also very welcome to participate in the craft activities.
Can I visit the museum without booking a craft ticket?
Yes. A Standard Admission ticket allows you to enjoy the museum during the Home Education session without joining the craft activity.
On home educator visits days, other home educating families will be visiting. You may also see museum staff, researchers or volunteers during your visit. If you do see someone at work, please say hello and ask us questions about what we are doing, we’re a friendly bunch.
We have an indoor lunch space that we rent out, and we do our best to make it available for Home Education Days. However, this cannot always be guaranteed.
During the summer months, we recommend enjoying lunch in our beautiful gardens.
If you’re unsure about availability, please email us at [email protected], and we’ll be happy to help.
There are also several cafés and food options nearby if you prefer to eat out before or after your visit.
If you’d like to take part in the craft activity then we recommend reserving a space in advance.
You can book in advance via the Home Education event which is publicised in advance.
