PCT100 Creators: Exploring Light with Kevin Lawrence
Join photographer and cinematographer Kevin Lawrence for series of workshops exploring how light, colour and composition shape the way we experience the world around us.
As part of the Powell-Cotton Trust’s centenary celebrations, we’re inviting our local communities to help connect the museum’s past, present and future via a series of artist-led creative workshops throughout the summer.
From photography and film to screen printing and poetry writing, these sessions offer the chance to respond creatively to what you discover in the museum and its collections. Your work will then form part of a special community exhibition opening in October 2026.
Exploring Light: What happens when light becomes the subject?
Led by photographer and cinematographer Kevin Lawrence
Experiment with colour, reflection, projection and movement in this interactive workshop. Using gels, mirrors, water, light effects and live projection, we’ll explore how different materials shape and transform light, creating striking visuals and unexpected results.
Open to all ages and experience levels, this is a chance to play, experiment and discover the creative possibilities of light. No photography experience required. Suitable for families and young children.

About Kevin Lawrence
Kevin Lawrence is a professional visual storyteller, photographer and cinematographer based in Margate. Originally from Chicago, he cultivated his early visual arts background studying painting and drawing before refining his camera work and lighting skills in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
His background spans multiple facets of visual media, including his tenure as Director of Photography at A+C Studios. Operating out of East Kent, he specialises in capturing highly stylised, cinematic, and reality-defying photography that challenges how we see the everyday world.
Kevin’s work explores the intersection of light, material and perception – themes that run through all his creative practice. In this workshop, he invites participants to experience first hand how light becomes a creative material in its own right.
